A calzone is a pizza pocket that is so easy to make at home! It’s a great meal on the go and the kids love it! They’re fun to eat because they have everything you’d enjoy on a pizza but it’s hand held. No need for a fork & knife, grab one and dig in!
I love using my dough recipe for when I’m making calzones. If you’re in a rush, you can easily use premade pizza dough. Either will work well for this recipe. If you’re using my dough recipe, you can expect to make 8-10 calzones.
WHAT IS A CALZONE?
A calzone is an oven-baked folded pizza filled with pizza toppings. Anything you put on a pizza can go into a calzone! It’s brushed with butter and sprinkled with cheese or sesame seeds and baked until golden brown.
ARE PIZZA DOUGH AND CALZONE DOUGH THE SAME?
Yes! You can use my basic dough recipe or premade dough. Either will work fine in this recipe!

Ingredients
Optional Filling Ingredients:
Salami or pepperoni, sliced
Bell peppers, diced
Black or green olives, sliced
Onion, sliced
Shredded mozzarella cheese
Pizza sauce
Butter
Sesame seeds
Instructions
Prepare dough recipe or use premade dough.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Roll dough on a floured surface.
Cut dough into circles, I like to cut them into 7" rounds.
On the center of the dough, add pizza sauce and desired toppings.
Fold the dough over the toppings to create a half moon shape and seal the edges by folding the bottom over the top pinching the seams together.
Place the calzones on a greased baking sheet and cut a small vent on the top. Then brush with melted butter.
Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
